In 2018 I was invited to be part of the group exhibition 'Retro Fantastic' at the Dutch Design Hotel in Amsterdam, Netherlands.
For this occasion I created the Retro Fantastic series, paint and paper collages on 30x30 cm canvas board.
I enlarged some of the smaller works to create transfer collages each 120x120 cm.
'Retro Fantastic 11' became
'Operation Crossroads' a transfer collage measuring 120 x 120 cm, finished with acrylic paint, glue, pastels, felt pen.
'Operation Crossroads' is about just another nice day at Bikini atoll during operation Crossroads.
The models are set against the Baker atom bomb background, the second test at Bikini.
The bomb was known as Helen of Bikini and was detonated 90 feet (27 m) underwater on July 25, 1946. Radioactive sea spray caused extensive contamination.
